Faizal Sidik - Stencil: New Drawings and Sculptures

The exhibition 'Faizal Sidik - Stencil: New Drawings and Sculptures' is an exhibition that brings together the latest works on paper and 3 dimensional works produced by the artist from 2024 until now.

This exhibition is also a tribute by the artist for the work of Redza Piyadasa. Piya using the stencil technique to produce alphabets that form text or writing through his work around the 70s.
Stencilling produces an image or pattern on a surface by applying pigment to a surface through an intermediate object, with designed holes in the intermediate object. The holes allow the pigment to reach only some parts of the surface creating the design. In practice, the (object) stencil is usually a thin sheet of material, such as paper, plastic, wood or metal, with letters or a design cut from it, used to produce the letters or design on an underlying surface by applying pigment through the cut-out holes in the material.
However, in this show, Faizal Sidik uses stencils to produce pixel motifs in patterns in his latest drawings and sculptures.
Faizal Sidik was the pioner student to study for a Master of Visual Arts, namely a Master of Southeast Asian Visual Arts offered at the Cultural Centre, University of Malaya under the supervision of Redza Piyadasa in 2003 which is now called the Faculty of Creative Arts.
